Description

Rustins Danish Oil is a premium penetrating wood finish designed to nourish, protect, and enhance the natural beauty of interior and exterior timber. Combining the benefits of traditional oils with modern resins, this versatile finish delivers a durable, water-resistant surface while preserving a natural, low-sheen appearance that highlights wood grain and colour.

Ideal for hardwoods and softwoods, Rustins Danish Oil penetrates deeply into the timber fibres, providing long-lasting protection against moisture, staining, and everyday wear. It is widely used on furniture, doors, trim, worktops, turned wood, and joinery where a natural oiled look with improved durability is required. The finish does not form a thick surface film, allowing the wood to breathe while still offering excellent resistance to handling and environmental exposure.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Deep-penetrating oil and resin blend for enhanced durability

  • Brings out natural grain definition and enriches wood tone

  • Water-resistant and hard-wearing finish

  • Suitable for interior and exterior wood (excluding areas of constant water immersion)

  • Easy wipe-on, wipe-off application

  • Low odour compared with traditional oil finishes

  • Can be built up for increased sheen and protection

Coverage

  • Approximately 12–14 m² per litre per coat, depending on timber type and porosity.
Porous woods such as oak or softwoods may require additional coats and yield lower coverage.

Drying Time

  • Touch dry: 4–6 hours

  • Recoat time: 8–12 hours

  • Fully cured: 24–48 hours under normal conditions (20 °C, good ventilation)
Drying times may extend in cool, damp, or poorly ventilated environments.

Application

Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dust, wax, grease, or old finishes. Sand smooth and remove sanding dust. Apply generously using a lint-free cloth or brush, allow the oil to penetrate for 5–10 minutes, then wipe off excess. Additional coats can be applied to deepen the finish and improve protection, lightly sanding between coats if required.

Finish Appearance

Produces a natural satin to low-sheen finish. Additional coats increase depth and subtle lustre without creating a heavy gloss.

Maintenance

Surfaces can be refreshed by cleaning and applying a further thin coat when signs of wear appear. Localised repairs blend well without stripping the entire surface.

Suitable Surfaces

  • Furniture and cabinets

  • Interior doors and trim

  • Wood panelling

  • Turned and carved wood

  • Garden furniture and exterior joinery (protected locations)

Rustins Danish Oil is an excellent choice where a traditional, hand-rubbed appearance is desired with modern durability and ease of maintenance, making it ideal for both professional woodworkers and DIY users seeking a high-quality natural finish.
